The “I” Team

There it is.

There may be “no ‘I’ in team” but there is an exception - when you yourself are the goal.

If you want to develop yourself you need to surround yourself with perspective and experience to help you become the best version of you.

As social creatures, we thrive in groups so you need a “team” - not a sponsor or mentor. It takes a bit of reframing to see that what works in other areas of life, works for you.

Assemble your team.

Great teams don’t assemble by magic but built over time so there are some challenges.

  • Knowing yourself and your “vision”.

  • Finding the right personalities.

  • Choosing between people who know more or know different.

  • Building trust and blending strengths

  • Knowing when to disassemble and start over

Here are some ways to increase your chances of success when building your I-Team.

Build your recruitment network.

Be prepared to make as many connections as you can and take time to nurture your network. This is the pool of people that you will recruit from.

Hire people with empathy and perspective.

You need to hire people that can empathise with you and your goals but also with enough perspective and personality to know when and how to challenge you.

Give back and pay forward.

What is the point of having a great team without shared success? Offer to become part of their I-Team in return and after achieving your goals, help others assemble their own I-Team.
